Spring Things (To Do)
On property and in our region, there's so much to do at Troutbeck this Spring. Take advantage of our new midweek Offers & Invitations to reap the sweetness of the season here.
May Mid-Week Highlights
Westerly Canteen is back in residence at Ten Mile Distillery, operating Thursdays through Sundays and serving the most gorgeous, satisfying, hyper-seasonal fare from chef Molly Levine, a Chez Panisse alum, and her partner, farmer Alex Kaindl, who bring their Californian sensibilities to sourcing in the Hudson Valley. This, plus the most stunning setting of the Distillery itself and its orchard grounds, make for the ideal excursion 10 minutes from Troutbeck.
Innisfree Garden, the exquisite mid-century Japanese and Chinese-inspired estate in nearby Millbrook is once again open Wednesday through Sunday. While the weekends have structured program (and are much busier), mid-week is a chance to experience Innisfree as if it was your own verdant private wonderland.
Film buff? The Moviehouse, our local cinema in Millerton (10 minutes), has both first run movies (Challengers, Wicked Little Letters) and thoughtful documentaries, such as Exhibition on Screen: Painting the Modern Garden - Monet to Matisse, (not to mention live streams of the Metropolitan Opera productions). The Moviehouse is a portal to international culture in a small town theater. We love their curation and are so lucky to have it so close to Troutbeck. Open seven days a week.
Four Brothers Pizza + Drive-In in Amenia is open for the season and beginning Monday, May 13, there are shows every evening including weeknights. Upcoming on the big screen outside include Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Fall Guy and IF.
Art obsessed? Visit DIA Beacon (open Friday through Monday) on your way up to Troutbeck on a Sunday or Monday. Standard Space in Sharon is open Friday through Sunday. Art Omi in Ghent is open every day of the week. James Barron Art is open by appointment.
Wassaic Project's Summer Exhibition opens on Saturday, May 18, but mid-week tours of their unique facility within a hundred+ year old mill and stable are bookable in advance via . The Art Nest, a children's creative space with endless art supplies, is open every Saturday 12-5pm by drop-in.
If you're coming to us to seek out a Wellness-focused respite from the city bustle, consider some horse therapy. Hope Rising Farm is just down Leedsville Road from Troutbeck and specializes in the benefits of equine-assisted learning, including building trust, patience, self-esteem, even lowering blood pressure (7 days a week, by appointment).
If you're prone to pulling over to ogle newborn calves, lambs, and goats this time of year, consider a visit to Elk Ravine Farm, where you can properly acquaint yourself with their menagerie, led by their irresistibly fuzzy Scottish Highland cattle. Elk Ravine Farm offers private farm tours and horse-drawn carriage rides, along with a burst of serotonin from the extreme cuteness, seven days a week, arranged ahead.
Get inspired by the countryside (and especially by Trade Secrets on May 18 + 19) and then get your own garden (or window box going with plants from our neighbors at Paley's Nursery, right up the road from us (open daily).
