March Motivation + Spring Break
Spring is in the air, or it will be soon! We've prepared a list of excuses for you to get away this Spring—family friendly reasons to flock to Troutbeck. Here is our March Newsletter.
Troutbeck will be your ‘holiday home’ for Spring Break. Benton Cottage is available to rent as a whole with four bedrooms (sleeps up to 8!), a dining room, living room + kitchenette. Move in, takeover + reap the benefits of our amenities in what feels like a home.
Grownups, with our on site Offerings and myriad Things To Do in our culture-rich region, you'll be cared for and inspired here. Additionally, every weekend, we’ll offer program that children of all ages (well, age four + up, please) will enjoy.
Program at Troutbeck Every Weekend
On Sunday, March 3 and Sunday, March 24, from 11-11:45AM, we'll offer children's yoga with practitioner Kendra LaCroix. Further details + sign up via our Culture Calendar. Parents, please consider using our gym, saunas or booking a Wellness treatment at The Barns while your children are in class.
Beginning March 9, every Saturday, Troutbeck’s Pastry Chef, Emma Isakoff, will lead a class for children: Deluxe Granola Bars Workshop (3/9), Meringue Pops Workshop (3/16), Fairy Gingerbread Houses Workshop (3/23) and Easter-themed Salt Dough Ornaments (3/30).

With over 170 species of both indigenous and endangered wildlife, all cared for by students for environmental science and animal behavior study, the zoo is an extraordinary place to visit for children of all ages. It’s open everyday, by reservation only. Book your reservation here.
Wethersfield, the historic estate and garden (10 miles from Troutbeck), offers access to its gorgeous trails for hiking, walking and horseback riding (it’s BYOH...bring your own horse, though). Enjoy this stunning property’s springtime evolution by observing birds, buds, mushrooms and more.
Mountains
From Troutbeck, there's easy access to nearby family-friendly ski slopes (weather dependent), such as Mohawk Mountain, Catamount and Butternut, where one can also "uphill" adventure via skinning or snow shoeing (details at Catamount here and Mohawk here), and don't forget about the fun of tubing!
Cross-country skiing and snow shoeing is even closer: on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail (access point is a 5 minute drive from Troutbeck) or at nearby Wethersfield, one of the region’s most distinguished estates and gardens, where hiking, snow showing or cross country skiing is available on their maintained trails for $10 per day.
Horseback Riding
Walking distance from Troutbeck is Hope Rising Farm, a welcoming horse farm where beginners can take lessons on the sweet steeds. Call ahead to organize lessons for your child while you are at Troutbeck.
For more rigorous lessons, Kildare Stables (8 miles from Troutbeck), offers private and group classes tailored to each student’s level, on the flat or over fences.
Art
Calling all artists!! Wassaic Prjoect’s Art Nest is open on Saturdays from 12-5pm. It is a drop-in space (not drop-off, so parents/caretakers are expected to stay). While there aren’t formal classes, there are usually several projects available to explore: crafting, painting, and creating of all kinds. Anyone may come and there’s no need to sign up in advance. Attendance is FREE, but as a nonprofit, donations are suggested/encouraged. For any questions, please reach out to:
Adults should not miss exploring Wassaic Project. Before or after escorting children to the Art Nest, go visit the Winter Show I Should Have Been A Pair of Ragged Claws, which closes on March 1 6, and is also open on Saturdays from 12-5pm.
Join local artist Michelle Beaulieu-Morgan for a Punch Needle Workshop on Saturday, March 23. We recommend this for ages 13 and up.
Easter Weekend
Troutbeck has family friendly offerings all weekend long. On Saturday, children may participate in an Easter-themed salt dough ornament workshop led by Troutbeck’s Pastry Chef Emma Isakoff. On Sunday morning at 11am sharp, we host our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Manor House lawn, then be sure to join us for Brunch, where DJ Tim Love Lee will spin his signature combination of retro soul, disco and eclectic classics.
