Topics led by the panel -
- What do we know about the current level of food security in our area?
- To what extent do people not have access to good, nutritious food in our area, the level of people accessing pantries (NECC, The Corner Pantry and ST. Thomas)
- Surveys that we are currently conducting to gain an understanding of the barriers and challenges for production, distribution, storage, access etc.
We will then look to engage a conversation about what would an equitable food system look like for our community. The panel will help us understand all the components of a food system including: \
- Farmers - Food Supply Chain - staffing, housing, living wage, land access, consistent / predictable demand, fair price
- Consumers - Accessibility, language, cultural, affordability, nutritional, fostering community.
- Environmental - Importance of producing nutrient dense food while protecting our environment, sustainable practices, food waste.
We will also be able to share what models and programs are getting traction and making a difference in our region.
